Statement Of Purpose—X university.

TASK: To ghostwrite SOP (statement of purpose) in 1000 words.

“Education is not preparation for life. Education is life itself.”

-John Dewey

If there is one thing I have invested my life in so far, it is education. Growing up, I have been told education has the power to change one’s life and the lives of people around. I understood this fact as a teenager, and since then, I have firmly believed in the importance and impact of education. As a result, I worked with determination and secured a seat in TKR College of Engineering. I majored in computer science engineering, and my undergraduate journey gave me unparalleled learnings.

The opening year of my bachelor’s taught me basic technical skills, teamwork, coordination, and management. I participated actively in multiple sports that challenged me physically and mentally. Sports also sharpened my leadership skills. I was also a part of SKHYKAR, which is a technical fest conducted on campus. I teamed up with the seniors to organize the event, and the process taught me coordination and management.

In the second year of my UG, I attended a robotics seminar, which helped me understand how AI (artificial intelligence) works. It increased my curiosity regarding the technical aspects of computer science. I spent the entire year gaining the technical knowledge that would help me grow in the following years.

In the third year of my engineering, I interned at ECIL, an Indian government enterprise established to create a strong indigenous base in electronics. I was a part of the technical department of ECIL where I worked on android application creation and development from scratch. I created a basic payroll for companies that allows the administration and the users to check the status of salary transactions. I designed the front-end using XML, built storage with Firebase, and adopted JAVA for coding. I’ve put all my learnings into this internship and succeeded in creating the payroll. I submitted the same as my mini-project that year and was acknowledged by the lecturers for my work.

Soon after I submitted my mini-project, I created a calendar application that enables users to schedule notes or reminders and notifies them with a pop-up at the specified date and time. The users can also ask the application to notify them a day prior to the scheduled time. This wasn’t a college or internship project. I created this application with the curiosity to explore more about the creation and development of android applications. Similar to my mini-project, I used JAVA to code and XML for front-end design. I employed SQLite to build the storage that stores the data and the dates.

A few months later, I was in my final year, and it was time for my major project. I was associated with a team of three students where we developed a web application using machine learning and data science. I collaborated and contributed to all divisions of the project, but if I have to mention one specific role, I’d say data analysis. The project was about creating a web application that gives the prediction of crop yield. We collected the data based on the geographical locations with respect to a few major factors such as water, soil, weather, history of crops, etc, and provided prognoses and predictions of the suitability of crops in different areas. We’ve adopted the K-nearest neighbors and Random forest algorithm for this project. We have used Python for coding. The major project made me technically strong and improved me as a team player.

A month after my graduation, I joined the company’s training program, where I worked on the responsiveness of the web pages. I designed responsive web pages using Bootstrap on HTML sites. I also enjoyed the responsibility of being a team leader. I believe the time spent in my UG helped me counter challenges. The training campaign lasted four months, and soon after the training, I was designated as the program analyst trainee at Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS.) I detect and handle errors based on claim numbers to the best of my abilities, and if they are beyond my strengths, I forward them to the respective developers. Simultaneously, I’m working as a part-time intern at Apalya Technologies, a company that provides data to applications and designs the UI. My role is to enrich the metadata and categorize the data.

I’ve had phenomenal experiences as an undergraduate student and a job holder, but I think it is time to evolve and explore more. As I’ve said at the beginning, I value education to a great extent, and there is no better time for MS considering my learnings and experience over the period.

I’m sure a Master’s degree in computer science will give me wings to fly high and reach my goals. I feel the United States of America will be the best country to meet my goals, considering the quality of education the country provides and its hospitality to the newcomers.

I learned about X university and decided to pursue my MS at X after learning about it. X’s Y-year experience in educating students worldwide and producing students with impeccable knowledge at the end of the semester is second to none.

I’m confident that my skills, experience, and expertise will be nurtured well under X university’s excellent staff and management. I also believe that this will mark a new beginning in my journey as a software engineer. I’m looking forward to being a part of the community.
